Dubai Metro to expand before 2020
Good news to regular Dubai Metro commuters!
Extensions for the current Red and Green lines of the Metro have been approved by the authorities, and upgrading the Metro is top priority for the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to get it up and running before the World Expo 2020.
The destinations have already been finalized, but RTA engineers are currently still deep in their elbows studying which routes work best. The planned extensions will double the length of the Green Line, while the Red Line will extend by up to 20 kilometers on both ends.
The southern end of the Red Line is set to extend up to the Expo 2020 site, while the approved extension on the other end is from Rashidiya to Mirdif City Center. There is a proposal to further extend it to Al Warqa'a.
For the Green Line, the plan is to extend it from Jaddaf to Academic City. It will pass through Festival City, The Lagoons, Ras Al Khor Industrial Area, International City, Silicon Oasis, and Academic City. There is also a proposal to let the line pass by Meydan in Nad Al Sheba on the way to Academic City.
Isn't this exciting? People in Dubai will find it ultimately easy and convenient to get to around the city. While buses regularly ply these routes, nothing beats the comfort and convenience of the world's longest driverless rail facility.
